Last week we spoke about accelerating the success of female founders throughout the VC pitch process and on the journey to securing venture funding. A top-down change that goes hand-in-hand with a bottom-up approach. To get to a world where there are more women-led venture-backed businesses, we should have more female decision-makers on the investment side (in the US, only 5.6% of VC firms are led by a female general partner!). Collaboration and working together with male leaders is also essential. But how to we address the societal norms? Talent is universal, opportunity is not (credits:Lolita Taub); and to level the playing field for female founders, it is important to empower the next generation of female leaders discover the potential a career in technology holds.
The person who is joining me for the next session of #EcosystemGiants is one of my very early role models in tech. Amali de Alwis MBE FRSA is the UK managing director of Microsoft for Startups(which supports leading B2B tech companies grow with Microsoft) and was CEO of Code First: Girls (a multi award-winning training company focused on increasing diversity in tech). She is one of the most influential women in the UK IT industry and drives change by example - empowering thousands of women to learn programming skills and discover new careers in technology. We will speak about the need for greater diversity in tech & venture, creating the leaders of the future and ways startups can work together with large corporations. RSVP here to join the conversation at 5pm GMT on Tuesday 1 December 2020.
